Needles
I wanted to continue where I left off about needles,
I mentioned to you that my favorites where Turbo, Addi Hya and Clover
However I must point out there are so many other brands out there of wonderful needle Brittany , knit picks , delaQ knitters pride ,Susan bate, lion brand, thhe list goes on. Under the names I have shared, there are many different types of needle; straight needle , double pointed (DPN) for short , circular needles, both metal and wood, including exotic woods , carbon needles , interchangeable needles, needles of different sizes that screw into a cable , so you don’t have tons of needles lying around. Whew !
Ok, there is no one perfect needle out there. It is up to the individual knitter, your budget, your hands, your comfort, and project type.
Needles are like extensions of your hands , you need to feel comfortable with them as well as being comfortable where you're knitting .
Comfort in crafting is important no matter what it is .
Now ergonomically speaking; when knitting most projects; knitting on circular needles is the best for several reasons
1. The bulk of your project is centered in your lap while knitting.
2. Your elbows are closer to your body which prevents stress on your elbows and shoulders.
3. You need less elbow room when knitting on circular needles which makes it much easier to knit while on bus ,plane ,train ,car (the car not so much if your driving 😬)
I will point out knitting on circular needles does not mean you can only do projects in the round, in fact anything knitted on straight needles can be knit on circular needles.
Socks of many kinds are knitted on circular needles with only adding one or two straight needles for heel and toe. There are many different methods of knitting socks but I will cover that in the near future .
Lastly about comfort, some of you may suffer from chronic neck or shoulder pain or other upper body aliments, I find that a soft throw pillow or bed pillow in my lap to rest my arms on while knitting relieves and aches and pains from arms and neck for a good portion of my knitting and crochet time .
As there are many different needles out there there are also many crochet hooks as well; by most of the companies previously mentioned .
Special consideration should be made when buying your needles made from the more exotic woods they are beautiful to look at and touch however I suggest you try a set before purchasing multiple sets in these woods as some woods can bother or hurt your hands while knitting so try one set make sure they are desireable for you.
