Hi fiber friends,
Once again, I am here to share thoughts, give insight, and maybe even make you laugh. We are switching gears here just for a bit.
Let’s talk about yarns and yarn shops for a moment.
You may ask why, I will explain. (As you wish)
I feel yarn stores are the best for beautiful fibers and wonderful help marvelous patterns and the latest tools and trends. Over the course of my posts I’m going to provide pictures, addresses and people at various shops that I love to go to and purchase from whenever I can. Without us knitters crocheters and even cross stitchers. (Even cross stichers) shopping our brick and mortar shops, they would all disappear. They need our patronage even for the smallest of things, they work hard to peak our interest with new classes, new patterns, fabulous new colors and wonderful fibers. If these brick and mortar shops did not have us they would cease to exist. Yes, I am aware I said the same things in two different ways, It is that important!
Sure, shopping online can be fun and easy, sometimes cheaper, sometimes not, but nothing can replace the time and effort that these brick and mortar places put into their displays, their class line ups and the trends they choose to bring us. Let alone touching the yarn seeing the color up close and personal, getting personal help with needle size gauge or what’s the best yarn to use for the next project you're starting. You can not get any of that at an online store.
Don’t get me wrong online shops are great if you know exactly what you want and you know the color way and the amount you need and the pattern. Online is great for things that are harder to find in your local shops, and who among us doesn’t like shopping in their pajamas ? None the less going to your local yarn shop is good for an outing, you get to socialize with the benefit of having your questions answered in the moment, you'll meet like minded people who can share experiences and tricks they've picked up through their endeavors, see some new things, see what butter cup has been doing with Humperdinck. Maybe sit and knit for a while or go out to lunch. It’s all an experience worth having.
If you like shopping in your pjs, ask your local shop to host an evening pajama knitting party with a fun mystery project, fun beverages or plain old hot coco with marshmallows. Sit and knit with friends and support your local shop at the same time. You might have fun!
With all that being said remember our brick and mortar shops count on us to keep them up and running and we need them just as much. Online is great but I feel that in person is an experience that shouldn't be missed.
Until next time friends.
